Summers arrived!

Here are a few pic from the Williamsburg Botanical Gardens Gardens program we attended on Wed morning!

They did a program for HS'er on water conservation..... the girls and I enjoyed it! And we learned about even more things we can safely throw in the compost pile! Yes our garbage output keeps shrinking!

Tonight the girls and I did our Smores Booth at the 2nd Annual "Day in a Life" GS Event.
It's always a big success and the girls had fun!

Summer arrived today... with it heavy humidity we know and dislike so much! Including the very present T storm and huge down pour in the early evening ( while I was supervising roasting of marshmallows for above mention event.....(thank goodness for a 16inch overhang, all the girls managed to stay dry...I got soaked)

I decided to start a new blog to share all the freebies, that I come across, that would be of some benifit to my fellow Williamsburgs is called Drum roll......"Williamsburg Freeebies"

The girls have taken to drinking thier drinks out of fancy glasses....they crack me up!

Keeping the lights off today!

About twice a month we do "No lights-on day". This is mostly for fun and to help save electricity....but today was not the best day for it...since the natural light has been lacking and dark clouds have rolled in as the day progresses. We have lots of candles and battery lanterns at the ready. It's amazing what a natural habit it is (at least for me) to go for the light! Of course we still are completely plugged in.... to all our faves..... above pic is how the girls started thier day.
They did manage to get out and play before the the major rain.... I have a GS SU meeting tonight.... last one till Aug. yeah! Wilkes is off today.... he changed the brake pads on my car ...no more squeaky. This is the first time he is home with the no lights thing... he keeps forgetting lol !

Happy Memorial Day

I added my weemee to the blog! The girls are having lots of fun these past few days exploring wee-world, I'm reading all the ' facts' as they just dive in and learn as they go.

Our plan for today... to honor the the Veterans ; was to fill a few bags of stuff to donate to our local DAV and also to drop off some cookies to our local VFW post. It's slow going, the neighbor hood kids came over and between wee world and Disney's Channel movies and marathons, we've been happily distracted.

I'd also like to head out and take advantage of some of the money maker deals today.

Sparklers

I was just reading to the girls a post from the old blog from about 2 years and a month ago.(June 07)..and I was reading that they were out side that night playing with sparklers that Wilkes had brought home.... when just at that moment Wilkes walks thru the door carrying several boxes of sparklers....11:50pm time for some new sparkly fun!

Old Blog

Since,I don't know how to bring one of my older blogs here I'm posting a link to it http://bla07.homeschooljournal.net/ Sad to say it's been a about a year since I posted there....but I have posted on the RUN site and of course there has been the discovery of Facebook, to occupy my time ( and stay connected)!

PMK videos

Last week at the library we discovered the Popular Mechanics Kids video/dvd series. We love them, they have 4 episodes per dvd... on all kind of topics... tonight we're watching one that was an episode on " Zoos... behind the scence" Now I just hope our library carries the whole series, cause we're hooked!

I've started a many a blog...

.....but a very wise man Ben Franklin ( OK a real cool impersonator) said something that hit a cord with me... he said... "if you want to give your children a great gift, write down your days...good and bad".

So here I start again, I'm currently a SAHM, we are a radical unschooling family, meaning we respect each other needs as equally as possible and spend our days doing things that bring us joy...no curriculum required!

Lately, I have dived into a hole new realm of reality for me.... couponing.... I've spent weeks scouring the Internet educating myself on the ways of coupon deals.... and let me just say there are some great resources out there!!! I'm amazed! Sites that match up your grocery stores sales with coupons... its wild... my frig and and freezer have never been this full!

It's Saturday, and right now the girls are out playing at a neighbors. Usually we lay low on the weekends ( and this is Memorial weekend) we're spoiled, we don't like the big crowds they bring. But my non early risers...got up early today to go to the Old Navy's $1 flip flop sale (we got there around 10am and there was hardly anything left...but Liv(10) got 3 pairs: black, brown, and grey; Lex(8) was able to find one pair in her size... red! They both have plans to embellish them in some way. We also went to the downtown library to catch the showing of Disney's ' Amos and Ben ' which is part of a wonderful two month program/traveling exhibit the library is hosting on Ben Franklin. Bummed that our state's Krispy Kremes was not participating in the 99 cents for a dozen donuts deal...we stoped at D&D and I got them each a sprinkled donut... (thank-you Aunt C. for that gift card). They both decided against the Lowes kid workshop. We have also vetoed the movie at the riverfront tonight cause of the crowds....but we agreed to go some time during the week....just to play at the riverside beach!

We'll most likely hang-out, eat some of the yummy food we have stock piled and watch some
tv and or vids...

Got to go... the girls just walked through the door all excited about some new website they just learned about.....weeworld.com .... thank goodness we all have our own laptops!!

My Travel Dreams!

It's my dream to travel the USA with the girls......I did say my dream. I do share it often and the girls seem enthusiastic....it's just the how to and budget that slow me down! In my dream we're traveling in this a roadtrek... can't see myself maneuvering one of those big RV's . It's just the over $100,000 price tag that gets in the my way.... I'm looking into a used version... still very pricey and way out of our budget range.....I dream on.... I've read countless blogs on living out of ones car.....though illegal, it can be done, just not so sure how safe it would be for me to undertake with two children. I think, maybe we'll tent across US... the tent, us and enough gear fit comfortable in my Subie. I envision a nation of unschoolers welcoming us to set up camp on thier land.....maybe even sharing there home. I think what about a travel buddie family who shares this dream, has the freedom, and wouldn't mind sharing a cheap hotel room....I keep dreaming.

Then I wake up to our day to day life , in which, the girls and I ,travel all the time. We annually take 2 to 3 trips to visit family in an other state. We load up and head out to wonderful unschooling gatherings, several times during the course of any given year. We go to Disney World about every three years. We often venture out for day trips across this great state of VA. We weekly go to museums that are an hour or more away....and once inside we travel even farther in our minds. Daily we get caught up in ds games, books and the Internet that take us to so many wonder places! Heck, our life gives us the ability to travel, constantly! As for my dream, well, very day is a step that brings me closer to it!

I can't wait to see where our travels will bring us tomorrow!
